Family Vacations

A member on our site mentioned how she and her family were going to travel out of town for a friend's wedding and how it will provide them with a chance for a family vacation:

Our friend is getting married next weekend, Eric is the best man. It's in Texas and we just booked a studio hotel for an awesome price. It'll be nice to have a little kitchen and microwave! Eric also told me there is Seaworld right there. I always LOVED Seaworld when I was little so we are hoping to get there on Friday and take Conner. I know he's still young but I am super pumped! It's like a weekend get away, and our first Family "vacation" even if it is only for a few days!

Reading this made me consider the importance of family vacations, and how often they really get to happen. For instance, we live far away from family. So, if vacation time is available, we usually need to spend it visiting said family. However, last year we actually took the time to spend a week at the beach. It was amazing, and truly worth it.

I think family vacations are essential to maintaining a sense of balance. Work, household demands, bills, relatives, friends... basically, the demands of everyday life can amount to a whole lot of stress. As a result, we find ourselves forgetting about quality family time. Sure, there are things to do at home and ways to make sure you connect on a regular basis. But nothing beats taking the time to travel together and really appreciate each other. You can appreciate the way your spouse interacts with the children while you look on, enjoy the delight of a new or exciting place to your children, and simply relish in the fact that the mundane is far, far, away-- especially from your state of mind.
